I began my violin training in a public school program in Pueblo, Colorado in the 5th grade. I continued music study through high school and then went to the University of Northern Colorado and earned a Bachelors of Music Education degree.
In 1982 I moved to Arizona to teach orchestra in Pinetop Lakeside. I then moved to Flagstaff to attend NAU and studied the Suzuki Method with Dr. Louise Scott. I received my Masters of Music in Suzuki Pedagogy.
In 1987 I moved to Mesa to teach in the Mesa District. While in Mesa I have taught at several elementary schools including Jordan where I have been teaching for 24 years. I have enjoyed continuing to teach at Jordan as well as adding the Mesa Academy to my roster.
I am an active member of and have held leadership roles in several professional organizations including, Suzuki Association of the Americas, American String teachers Association, Valley of the Sun Suzuki Association, and Arizona Suzuki Association. I was the Director of the NAU Suzuki Institute from 1999-2006. I have performed with local orchestras including, Mesa Symphony and Chandler Symphony.
I had the honor of being named Distinguished alumni for NAU in 1996 and I have been named in Who’s Who’s in American Women. I also am a private Suzuki instructor and in my spare time I enjoy Disneyland, family, reading, travel, and I have a black and white cat named Shinichi.
