Biography

Welcome parents, students and friends, to the 12th year of the Mesa Academy for Advanced Studies!  I'm looking forward to working with this year's students and anticipate lots of learning with fun, engaging activities!

This is my 12th year teaching with the Mesa Academy for Advanced Studies.  I teach the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), Design (Technology) Years 1 - 3:

  • MYP Year 1:  CTEC6 - IB 6th Grade Computer Technologies
  • MYP Year 2:  IB CB91 - IB Digital Technology
  • MYP Year 3:  IB CB92 - IB Animation Studio

Prior to becoming a teacher, I accrued an extensive background of experience in the business world from which I draw to enhance curricula and make it relevant and meaningful.  I worked as a staff journalist for two newspapers and a magazine in Michigan and was employed in computer technologies for the marketing department at Harris Trust Bank in Scottsdale, Arizona.  I was also employed for ten years as a network administrator of a charter school management company where I built computers, administered networks and maintained databases.  As a teacher, for the past 26 years, I've taught pre-K-12 computer science and computer literacy coursework.  My educational journey includes the following institutions:  the University of Michigan (Go Blue!!!)Eastern Michigan University, and the University of Phoenix.  My education includes a Master's Degree in Educational Technology, a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, SEI and Cooperative Education endorsements, and A+ and IC3 certifications.  Additionally, I'm a Microsoft Institute Teacher Leader, MPS Educational Technology Mentor, a member of the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA), and sponsor of the Academy's Novel Writing Club.  When I'm not teaching or writing, I enjoy singing with the ASU Choral Union and the MCC Community Chorus.
