NASA artwork contest for elementary students

NASA's Commercial Crew Program is hosting an artwork contest for children ages 4-12. The winning artwork will be used to create a 2021 calendar with different space-related themes each month. The themes educate students about the International Space Station, astronauts, growing food in space and more. The contest deadline is October 28, 2020. Find directions and more information at nasa.gov.

Mesa Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Program

The City of Mesa Housing and Community Development is accepting applications for the Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Program. The online application is available in English and Spanish. If you or someone you know needs assistance, please visit mesaaz.gov for qualifications and more information.

Edison Elementary counselor Jaime Clemens wrote a column for Expect More Arizona, which included tips to help families thrive this school year.

Dobson/Westwood area assistant superintendent Arlinda Mann spoke with Telemundo about modified in-person learning.

Community partnerships coordinator Michele Grimaldi appeared on 3TV/CBS 5 to discuss the flu vaccination/COVID-19 testing events provided in partnership with the City of Mesa. Telemundo covered the first event at Longfellow Elementary and interviewed district communications specialist Nina Allred and migrant education clerk Lillianne Ohep.

Lindbergh Elementary cafeteria manager Lyn Reidhead and food & nutrition director Sabrina Kvavle were featured in a 3TV/CBS 5 story about the department's dedication to feeding the community throughout the pandemic.

Mesa Tribune featured an article about the district's emergency and security procedures.

ABC15 aired a feature about Mesa High's SRO, Brian Gray, who is proud to serve his hometown community.

The Atlantic has published a follow-up article based on the reporter's interview last year with now-retired Westwood High educator Judith Harper.

A small group of special guests watched in person while masked and physically distanced. Teachers and students watched the award ceremony via livestream in their classrooms. Mesa Public Schools has earned the EVERFI Champion Seal. The seal, awarded to the opportunity & achievement department, recognizes the district's commitment to whole-child education. Less than five percent of school districts in the nation earn the designation.

Red Mountain High's Jaime Leverington was one of two Arizona educators named 2020 Economic Education Teacher of the Year by the Arizona Council on Economic Education.
