Art Masterpiece Program

The Mesa Public Schools Art Masterpiece Program is an art appreciation program offered to elementary children by trained parent volunteer guides. The guides lead discussions about famous paintings in school classrooms once every two weeks averaging 6 to 8 times, January through May. Each visit lasts 15-20 minutes. The art reproductions used in the program represent a variety of artists and periods of art.

In October and November, a series of training sessions are given to train new guides in the district, providing informative instruction to parent volunteers. The first three classes are Mandatory for first time guides. They feature knowledgeable speakers who provide needed background information and successful presentation ideas. The training classes cover a variety of subjects ranging from art history to communication skills. The enrichment class is for all new and returning guides.

Training Class Schedule 2006-2007

All sessions are held at the new Creative Arts building – 155 N. Center St. North of Main St. and South of Mesa Amphitheatre (Click here for map). Parent volunteers should attend either the daytime classes or the evening classes, but not both. The enrichment session is open to all new and returning guides.
