This is Ms. Hanson's ninth year teaching in Mesa Public Schools.  Prior to teaching in this district, she worked as a middle school and elementary school orchestra teacher in several locations.  Her most recent position was at Benjamin Tasker Middle School in Bowie, Maryland, where she taught orchestra to grades 6-8.  She also taught for many years in both Phoenix, Arizona and in Alexandria, Virginia.  Her bachelor's degree is from Boston University, where she majored in music education and viola performance.  Her master's degree is from Boston Conservatory, where she majored in viola performance.

In addition to teaching, Ms. Hanson also enjoys performing.  She played in an orchestra in Jalapa, Mexico for two years before she started teaching in the public school system.  It was an exciting experience that taught her not only about orchestra playing, but also about a different culture and language.  She has played in many orchestras over the last several years, including the Maryland Symphony, the Alexandria Symphony, the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra, the Arizona Ballet Orchestra, and the Musical Theater of Arizona Orchestra.  She is presently an active freelancer and member of the Musica Nova Orchestra in Phoenix, Arizona.

Ms. Hanson is a member of both ASTA (Arizona String Teacher's Association) and (NAfME) National Association for Music Education.
