I am very excited to be returning to Kino Junior High School and Edison Elementary. This is my sixth year with Mesa Public Schools, and I am looking forward to a great year.
I am a proud Sun Devil from Arizona State University, and earned Bachelor's degrees in Instrumental Music Education and Music Theory. I worked on my Master's degree in Music Education while teaching band and general music full time in Coolidge, AZ, and completed the degree in the spring of 2012. Since starting in Mesa, I have also taught band at Salk, Johnson, and O'Connor Elementary schools.
I am a member of the Arizona Music Educators Association (AMEA), the Arizona Band and Orchestra Director's Association (ABODA), and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). At the 2012 AMEA conference, I participated in a panel discussion on "Realities of Contemporary Music Education," moderated by Dr. Jeff Bush (James Madison University). In February 2017, I brought some members of the Edison Elementary Band to the AMEA conference to demonstrate "Teaching Techniques for Elementary Band," and also co-presented a session entitled "Tricks of the Trade: Teaching Elementary Instrumental Music in Title 1 Schools."
In my spare time, I volunteer for The Academy, Arizona's local World Class Drum and Bugle Corps, as a member of their administrative staff. On Wednesday evenings, you can find me playing bass and contrabass clarinets in the Arizona Wind Symphony. I am also in my fourth year on staff with the Mountain View Toro Marching Band as their woodwind instructor. I also serve on the ABODA Board of Directors as Secretary of the organization.
