After each word sounds, choose which of the 2 vowels you can
hear in the middle of the CVC pattern word. The Teacher's
Control Panel can be used to configure the game to focus on

Whirlyword Machine - Whirlyword is a fruit machine that
makes 3 letter CVC words. There are three levels to play.
Adults can use the buttons to configure the game to focus
on a specific word ending in level 1 or middle vowel in level
2.

- Choose a start sound and an end sound and let Wordblender
'bl-bl-blend' them together to make a new word. The game can
be configured to focus on specific start and end clusters
and offers 3 levels of difficulty.
- Funschool
- use the "search" to select the subject and difficulty
level. Subjects include math, reading and vocabulary, geography,
history and science. Reading includes beginning sounds and
opposites.

Letter Match - Drag the words to the box that begins with
the same letter. Directions and words are read to the child.

Make a Word - Insert vowels into CVC words to make real
words. Child-created words are read back.

Picture Match-
online practice on short and long vowels. The word list students

Word
Build and Bank- students generate words by adding a beginning
letter or blend to a word ending. The resulting word is not
pronounced for the student, but they get feedback as to whether
it is a real word or not. Some words marked correct might
not be in the student's vocabulary, however (i.e. "lop").
Student's list of created words can be printed for later review
or evaluation.

students group words in short-vowel families. No correction
or sound.

provides auditory directions and cues for completing three

- a different elementary age story each week. Lots of reading
and phonics activities linked to the activity map.
- Secrets
@ Sea -
a marine biology/ecology mystery appropriate for secondary
students. There are games and activities throughout the story,
working on using research resources (the field guide that
is provided within the website), reading for details, and
drawing conclusions. It is recommended that the teacher take
time to read the directions and explain them to the student.

Literactive-
choose from a wonderful list of fully animated online stories,
nursery rhymes and poems. This site has an abundance of phonemic
activities that help encourage reading to the young learner.
Some of the stories are also available in Spanish. Note: A
free registration is required.
- Bio-Cube-
a nifty way to generate a report on a story character. Students
are prompted for important information to include, like dates,
a quote, and significance to the plot. It prints to be cut
and folded into a cube.

Character
Trading Cards- provides many guided questions about a
character (examples: what did they do, why did they act the
way they did?) Prints on one page as a 2-sided "trading
card" with a space for students to illustrate by hand,
prewriting activity, or to demonstrate sequencing skills.
Templates are provided for backgrounds, characters, and speech
bubbles can be added and text typed into them.
- Drama
Map- prompts students through writing an analysis of a
piece of literature. Guided questions include setting, conflict,
character, and resolution areas. Prints for use as a graphic
organizer on the final copy. Interface appropriate for older
students, and the organization and guided questions lend themselves
to a play or novel.

on Idioms- online tutorial on the meanings of several
idioms. They are illustrated and used in context.

to depict the highs and lows of a plot.

online creation of a timeline with units as date, time, event,
or other Entries on the timeline become links for attaching
notes about the event. Prints horizontally or vertically with
notes appended to the bottom of the page. Nice tool for demonstrating
knowledge of the sequence of events in a story.
- What's
in the Bag?- students explore vocabulary common to their
environment. Addresses reading/listening comprehension skills.
All directions are given auditorily, making this a useful
tool for poor readers.

Results can be printed.

about Print- This tutorial on evaluating the appropriateness
of a non-fiction source for research projects is read aloud
to the student. Comes with a printable form for students to
