AVID Transitions: Successfully Guiding Students into the AVID Elective Class
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The AVID Elective is a component of AVID's college readiness system that supports students “in the academic middle” to become successful in a more rigorous environment and to promote entry into college. At the junior high and high school level, this takes place during the AVID Elective class. This process, outlined in each of the sections linked below, will help all stakeholders promote AVID to the ideal candidates who can benefit from this rewarding opportunity.
Below are links for MPS Employees to the official AVID Transition calendars for 6th to 7th grade AVID and for 8th to 9th grade AVID. All administrators, teachers, and counselors/student advisors should follow this district approved process.
The 8th to 9th grade process can be used for both students already in the 8th grade AVID Elective and students not currently in the 8th grade AVID Elective.
Parents and students can find applications for the AVID Elective at any junior high or high school or can click on the application button on this webpage.
