-
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
is
a program that identifies underserved students in grades 7-12 and
prepares them for four-year college entry.
-
Since 1990, over 20,000 students have graduated from AVID programs.
Over 90% of AVID's graduates enroll in college, and over 60% enroll
in four-year colleges. AVID graduates persist in college at an 89%
rate.
- Students
who are identified for AVID are perceived to have high potential
despite average grades. The AVID class operates as an elective in
the student's daily schedule. AVID provides intensive student support,
including study skills, college student mentors/tutors, test preparation,
college information, family involvement, and motivational activities.
- AVID
is a support system for underachieving students, most of whom will
be the first in their families to attend college.
- The
AVID program works within the regular school day and includes an
elective class, trained tutors, an AVID teacher, and a site team
of teachers, focusing on college preparation, writing, inquiry,
and collaboration.
- AVID
is an elective class that students attend daily. Twice a week, college
tutors visit the AVID classes to tutor students. AVID students are
provided an opportunity to visit colleges and universities throughout
Arizona. Guest speakers are invited to discuss careers.
