Library Information & Policies


Library Hours:

  • The library is open for students from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on school days. Parents are welcome to visit the library at 8:00 a.m. before school.

Things to do at the library:
  • Read and check-out books
  • Use the computers for online learning
  • Use computer programs such as Publisher and Word
  • Take A.R. quizzes & check student A.R. records
  • Study and do classwork
  • Research and learning...etc.

Checkout Policy:
  • Kindergarteners may check-out one book and keep it for one week starting second semester.

  • First Graders may check-out one book and keep it for one week.

  • Second through third graders check out two books and may keep them for one week.

  • Fourth through sixth graders check out two books and may keep them for two weeks.

  • Students can check-in and check-out books any time throughout the week in addition to their scheduled library days.

  • Parents are welcome to visit the library and check-out books starting at 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Parents may check out up to five books and keep them for two weeks.

  • Books are overdue if they are not returned or renewed by the due date. Patrons cannot check-out another book until overdue books are returned (or lost books have been paid for).

  • Patrons will be fined only when library books are lost or damaged. The purchase price is charged if a book is damaged beyond repair or is lost. Patrons cannot check-out another book until fines have been paid. Patrons who have outstanding fines for library books at the end of the school year will have report cards held until the fine is paid. Fines can be paid with cash or a check made out to "Barbara Bush Elementary."
Computer/Internet Use at the Bush Library:

  • Students must sign-in before using the Internet.
    (Although they do not need to sign-in to just use the online catalog)

  • Students are asked to only visit websites that are listed on the Barbara Bush website. The Virtual Library pages are full of pre-screened websites that are appropriate for students to visit at school. If there is another website that students would like to access at school, they should ask Mrs. Aron for permission first.

  • DOS & DON'TS:
    • DON'T type in a URL address without teacher permission.
    • DO ask Mrs. Aron or Miss VanVliet before printing pages from the Internet.
    • DON'T download anything.
    • DON'T give out personal information while online.
    • DON'T talk to others while taking A.R. quizzes.
    • DO show respect for others in the library by using quiet voices so that students that are taking A.R. quizzes or working or reading can concentrate.

  • Using computers and the Internet at the library is a privilege that may be taken away if these policies are not followed.
