Chile 1960 Disaster
  • Earthquakes are caused when two plates move sideways causing the earth to move and  shake and destroy the area around the earthquake.

  • It happened off the cast of South Central Chile

  • It happened on May 22, 1960 at 7: 11 P.M.

Why did it happen?
  • There is no reason for the earthquake either than that nature made it happen.

Plates move together
  • The earthquake was caused by two plates moving together.

What were the damages?
  • Many buildings,roads,bridges and houses were destroyed.
  • Lots of people were injured and killed.

Could this disaster have been avoided?
  •  The earthquake could have been avoided if there were advanced earthquake trackers to track the earthquake before it hit Chile.
  • The earthquake could also not have been avoided because there was not much advanced technology in 1960.

What has happened since the disaster?
  • The country Chile has gotten back to normal after the great earthquake and there hasn’t been any other major earthquake.
