Where did Mt. St Helens Eruption happen?
  • Mt.t St.Helens Erupted in Washington on May 18, 1980.  It erupted near Mount Lessen and Mount Kaiser.  Usually volcanoes erupt on islands, but they can also be found in states and continents.

When did it happen?
  • Mount Saint Helens erupted at exactly 8:32 a.m.  When it erupted it damaged landscape.  Mount Saint Helens was the first eruption in the United States.
4
How did it happen?
  • Nobody really knows how it erupted , but it didn’t make any sounds  or make any sudden movements until May 18, 1980.  When Mount Saint Helens erupted a geologist named David Jonhnstone was taking measurements and he saw it started to erupt, then he was crushed by  ice, trees and  rocks.
5
What were the damages?
  • Many damages happened. Over a 100 people died and houses were damaged, Landscape was out of order!  Plants and small critters were killed.  People and their homes were destroyed.  Geologists say that Mt. St. Helens could erupt again, at any time.
6
Could this disaster have been avoided?
  • Now that part of Washington is prepared for the next eruption.   Before the eruption nobody knew that the mountain was going to erupt.  They evacuated the area as fast as they possible could when it erupted.  A geologist was on the mountain when it erupted and he didn’t know that it was going to erupt.  No body knew it was going erupt

What has happened since the disaster?
  • That part of Washington has been fixed up, so people can live there. Trees and plants were grown, They have better technology, so they can find out if there will be another eruption soon.  And they can prepare for another eruption.  Geologists still think that there will be more eruptions in the future.
