Mt. Saint Helens
  • Mount Saint Helens is a volcano in the cascade mountains that has erupted many times.

Where did it happen?
  • The eruption happened 95 miles away from Seattle, Washington in the Cascade Mountains.

When did it happen?
  • May 18,1980  at 8:32am.

How/Why did it happen?
  • The reason Mount Saint Helens erupted was because of an earthquake that ripped open the north side of the volcano causing lava to spill out of the crack.

What were the damages?
  • 57 people died from the blast
  • the eruption caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage
  • it dropped the elevation from 9,677ft. to8,356ft

Could this disaster have been avoided?
  • No because this was a natural disaster but if they new about it they could have evacuated people, to prevent the deaths.

What has happened since the disaster?
  • Now after the eruption plants are growing freely through the valley & animals prospered through out the land.
