COURSE OFFERINGS

 NOTE:  All students are assigned to appropriate level reading courses based on the reading comprehension score on the previous spring’s administration of the AIMS Reading Test.

RD 17 and RD 18, Reading for Success, are full year, one credit courses;
RD 19, Reading for Success, is a one semester, half-credit course.
These required classes are designed to meet the needs of seventh, eighth and ninth graders respectively who are not reading at grade level.  Instruction is provided to raise reading level, improve skills and increase fluency in reading.

RD 07 and RD 08, Power Reading, are one semester, half-credit courses.
They are required courses for the average reader and are designed to provide students with the opportunity to expand fluency through extensive reading.  Instruction is provided for vocabulary, comprehension, reading rate, and critical thinking skills.

RD 10, Advanced Reading, is a one semester, half-credit required course for seventh graders who have shown mastery in reading.  This course will focus on developing more advanced reading skills in both fiction and non-fiction as well as focusing on critical thinking skills and college-bound vocabulary.

 

ELECTIVES

 RD 24, Mysteries and More, is a one semester, half-credit course designed for motivated readers and thinkers who enjoy reading mysteries and various other genres, including adventure and a variety of print materials.  Students will further develop reading and thinking skills through related activities, film and computer technology.
