Student Supplies

Students are expected to come to class prepared.  A pencil/pen, a pocket folder for social studies work/papers, and paper are expected each day.  It is recommended that each student bring a BLUE or BLACK pen to geography.

This notebook will be turned in periodically and graded.  Classroom expecations, grading policy, class notes, handouts and worksheets, vocabulary and daily board activities, and tests should be kept in the notebook.

Textbooks

Students will be issued a textbook.  The textbook will be a take home book, and we will have class sets of books for daily use.  It is the student's responsibility to take care of and keep track of the book.  It is recommended that the students use a book cover to keep the book in good shape.  Damaged and lost books will need to be paid for at the end of the school year.

Make-up Work
If a student is absent, it is the students responsibility to see what work needs to be made up.  The student can check the web page calendare for readings and assignments.  They should also check in with Mr. Hogen before class starts to check on missed work.  A student has one day for every absent day to do their make-up that was assigned or worked on during their absence.  Make-up work may be requested through the counseling office during an extended illness.  If a student is absent the day a project is due, the project will need to be turned in the day the student returns to school.

Homework and Class Assignments

Assignments are written on the board daily and on the web calendar.  The information will include daily activities, as well as dates for upcoming tests and due dates for assignments and projects.

The information on the web calendar will be updated periodically, but not always match daily activities and the calendar in the classroom.  The classroom calendar is the most accurate, and students should stay updated in class.

Class Procedures

Students will be in their assigned seats at the bell, with pencils sharpened and notebook ready.  Students wandering around the room or coming in the door when the bell rings will be considered tardy.

When the bell rings, the student should be filling out their daily calendar and copying any board activities for the day.

The student should also respect the rights of all other students.  Just as in the Bill of Rights, along with their rights, they have responsibilities.

Projects

There will be approximately one project per unit, with a minimum of one project per quarter in ELP.  Projects will generally be an activity taking one week to complete.  Part of the project will need to be completed at home.  There will not be enough class time to complete a whole project in class.  Completed projects may be turned in prior to the due date.  PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED ONLY ONE DAY LATE FOR A DEDUCTION IN POINTS.

Grading

Points will be awarded for tests/quizzes, major projects, worksheets and supplementary work, maps, homework, daily board activities/questions, and study skills.

Quizzes on reading material or the previous days notes/lectures will be administered periodically throughout the year, and will not appear on the calendar.  Tests will be administered at the conclusion of most units.

Late work for homework and class work (not projects) may be turned in for partial credit.  Late work turned in one day late will receive ninety percent (90%) of the possible points EARNED on the assignment.  Students may turn in work up to the last day of a unit and receive seventy percent (70%) of the possible points EARNED.  A MAXIMUM of two late assignments will be accepted each quarter. A missing assignment is considered a late assignment and counts as part of the two late assignments.   Work not turned in will receive a "0" for the assignment.

Extra credit work is NOT available.  It is expected that the students keep up with the current work and assignments.

Homework may include reading from the book or other supplemental materials, taking notes on a chapter/unit in the book, worksheets, map work, work on projects, or research.

Current grades will be posted in the classroom.  Grades will be posted by 4-digit ID numbers.  Grades can also be accessed online through the webpage.  To access the grades, your password will be the class period (00=A hour, 01=1st hour, 02=2nd hour, etc.) followed by the four digit ID number.

Grades will be determined by a percentage system.  Grades will be distributed on a percentage of  the total points possible as follows:  90% - 100% = A, 80% - 89.9% = B, 70% - 79.9% = C, 60% - 69.9% = D, 59.9% or less = F.  A grade of  89.5% or higher will be rounded up if there are NO missing or late assignments.
