STUDY SESSION

1.  Consideration of Systemwide Priorities for the 2017-2018 School Year
Dr. Cowan and President Richardson led the discussion on the consideration of systemwide priorities for the 2017-2018 school year. Dr. Cowan provided his recommendations and suggested that the Board look at designing priorities that can be implemented over the next several years, rather than single year priorities. Schools need time to implement various initiatives in order to have a significant impact on student achievement and closing the gap.

Dr. O’Reilly provided data outlining the parent and student school ratings, test data, graduation rates, and dropout rates.

The Board asked the administration to focus on the following objectives:

  • Ensure success of all students and close the achievement gap, increase the graduation rate while decreasing the dropout rate, and ensure all students are career and/or college ready.
  • Implement innovative solutions including continued the use of technology to increase achievement.
  • Ensure that the social emotional needs of students are met through building relationships.

The Board asked the administration to regularly provide notable measures of achievement.

The study session ended at 8:17 p.m.
