REGULAR MEETING

1. Review of Agenda Items
The Board briefly reviewed the agenda.

2.  Review of Governing Board Calendar
The Board briefly reviewed the calendar through October 2017. Due to October Break, the Board canceled the October 10, 2017, meeting.

3.  Updates from Superintendents
Dr. Cowan reported that everything is ready for the first day of school tomorrow. Bus drivers have practiced their routes, construction projects are on schedule, and private contractors continue their work outside of normal school hours. The Board asked the administration to convey their appreciation of he Operations Department for their commitment to the District.

Dr. Cowan conveyed that President Richardson's message regarding being "kind" was well received by administrators.

Dr. Holmes informed the Board of a memo he received from the Arizona Department of Education regarding the new Subject Matter Expert Standard Teaching Certificate for grades 6-12. Effective August 9, 2017, applicants may qualify for the Subject Matter Expert Standard Teaching Certificate if they have a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP fingerprint clearance card and proof of expertise in a subject area. Dr. Cowan informed the Board that this will be a topic of discussion for superintendency and they will make a recommendation to the Board. 

4.  Minutes
On the motion of Mrs. Miner, the Board unanimously approved the minutes of a regular meeting held on July 25, 2017.

5.  Personnel Requests
On the motion of Mrs. Sears, the Board unanimously approved the certificated and classified personnel requests, including an addendum. 

6.  Consent Agenda
On the motion of Mr. Peterson, the Board unanimously recommended approval of the consent agenda according to the recommended action for each item.

7.  ASBA Delegate Assembly
On the motion of Mr. Peterson, the Board unanimously approved the selection of Mrs. Miner as the delegate and President Richardson as the alternate to the Arizona School Boards Association Delegate Assembly, to be held Saturday, September 9, 2017, at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort, in Phoenix, AZ.
