Welcome to the GUS program. We are here to help your child develop some new skills to help them be successful at school and in life! With your help we will make great progress and your child will Grow Up Successfully!
Let me tell you a little about myself and how I came to be a teacher in the GUS program. I graduated from ASU in 1984 with a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. At that time I moved to Las Vegas and taught in a self-contained classroom for students with emotional disabilities. After three years in Vegas, I moved back to Mesa where I taught in a Learning Disabilities classroom until 1999 at Eisenhower and Pomeroy Elementary Schools. During that time I completed my Masters Degree in Education from NAU. In 1999, I had my first child, and in 2001 I had my second. After a number of years at home with my kids, I missed working in the classroom. I decided to return to teaching, and returned to Mesa Public Schools as a G.U.S. teacher. I am very fortunate to be a part of this amazing program!
The GUS program is a wonderful addition to the services offered in MPS. The GUS program can help give students the tools to make wonderful changes in behavior patterns which have gotten in the way of success in a traditional classroom. With your involvement, and desire to help your child make these changes, we will celebrate together when they exit the program and return to the general education classroom full time.
I am looking forward to working side by side with you and your child. I am more than happy to meet with you so that we can encourage your child to grow in all areas and find their personal success path.
