Biography

I began my 30 year teaching career in a one room school house in Wyoming.  It was one of the last in the United States.  I was hired to teach five students, one each in grades K, 1, 2, 3 and 7.  There was no phone service and so we had to communicate by radio.  The teacher had to live on site in the isolated mountainous area during the week, and during the winter the weather made it impossible to go home on several weekends.  Since then I have taught in many multi-grade classrooms.  I have taught K, 1st, 2nd grade combinations, 3rd and 4th grade combinations and 5th and 6th grade combinations.  I have taught in school districts in Laramie, Wyoming, Gillette, Wyoming, Ft. Collins, Colorado, on the Rosebud reservation in South Dakota, in Apache Junction, Arizona, and, now, here in Mesa.  I have been an Instructional Coach and a Summer School Principal in addition to working as a teacher.

I graduated with my Bachelors in Elementary Education from the University of Wyoming.  I have a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of South Dakota.  Additionally I have a reading endorsement and an early childhood endorsement.  I love to learn and am constantly curious about the world around me.

I have three grown children,  2 granddaughters, ages 3 and 11, and 2 grandsons who are 6 months and 11 months old .  I have four dogs, two cats, and a husband that loves animals as much as (perhaps even more than) I do.  In my spare time I love to landscape, quilt and do any form of artwork.

I feel fortunate to be a Title 1 Specialist at Crismon.  I am impressed with the commitment of the Crismon families and the staff at Crismon,  to partner in student learning.  I am excited to work with teachers and  students and to see each of them succeed as the year progresses.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with and learn from my colleagues as well as the students and their families.  Please feel free to share ideas or opportunities with me!  Please let me know how I can support you and your students in their educational success!
