Meet the Teacher: Mrs. Sommers

My husband and I at my Master's degree graduation ceremony.

A Little Bit About Me:

My name is Callie Sommers and along with teaching here at Dobson High School I am one of the softball coaches and an AVID trained teacher. I am an alumni of Arizona State University where I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, a minor in Transborder Chicana/o Latina/o Studies, and more recently with my Master's degree in Secondary Education.

This is my second year teaching, but my passion for education, the sciences, and helping students love learning began much earlier in life while I was an undergraduate at Arizona State University where I helped run the Cesar Chavez Leadership Institute which focused on teaching high school students civic skills, college readiness and leadership skills.

In the classroom this year my focus will be on providing students with the skills they need to navigate the technology-driven world around them. We will be integrating research-based teaching and learning methods into the biology curriculum to help students develop 21st Century skills  alongside our primary focus on cultivating a curiosity and appreciation of the sciences that prepares students to pursue more advanced science courses.

While I do teach two different classes this year, both sets of students will be held to a high set of standards for learning and for classroom conduct. For more specific information about these standards please visit the Classroom Rules and Expectations page.

Outside of the classroom I love to spend my time reading, hiking with my husband, running, and traveling. I am the proud dog mom of a 3-year old Chihuahua rescue named Marky Mark who loves to drag me on long walks through the park. On any given weekend you can find me at the softball field cheering on my husband's team, curling up on the coach reading a good book or outdoors exploring Arizona.

I look forward to an exciting and rewarding year together!
