My name is Marian VanSolkema and this is my 13th year teaching at Eagleridge. I was born in London, England and lived all over Europe before residing in Michigan at the age of ten with my parents and sister, Ann. I have an Elementary Education Degree from Arizona State University and received extensive training from ASU with an endorsement in Math and Humanities.
I have three wonderful children; two girls ages 27 and 24, and a son who is 20.
Our family resides in Chandler and we are very involved in the CHS marching band, ice hockey, theatre/arts, and philanthropy projects through church.
Before teaching at Eagleridge, I taught sixth grade at Chandler Unified School District. I strongly support our homeschooling program, because I had two very close friends that had their children attend Eagleridge for many years. They were thrilled that Eagleridge gave them the opportunity for additional enrichment outside of the homeschooling environment.
Mission Statement For My Class
The mission of my primary classes is that I believe all children are naturally curious, have a desire to learn, and have the ability to achieve greatness. As a teacher, I will be a positive role model and focus on a proactive role in my classroom. I intend to furnish my students with a safe and positive environment and provide them the necessary tools for a successful foundation for future learning. In doing so, I will adapt to the different learning styles. A balance of personal and academic skills will be achieved in my classroom to successfully challenge the children and increase their personal performance.
I believe that teachers and parents share the responsibility of the learning process. Parental involvement plays a vital role in the academic success of children. It enables children to see their parents as important and concerned members of the school environment, while providing parents with opportunities to view their child in the school setting. Parents will always be the first teacher in their children's lives; it is my job to enhance what they have learned at home.
