Thank you for your interest in the Mesa Public Schools kindergarten program! Enrollment in Kindergarten is an important milestone in a child's life. A successful first year in school will depend on finding a match between your child's level of development and the classroom learning environment. We hope this information will help you make this decision. Mesa Public Schools offers free full-day kindergarten at each school. Half-day kindergartens are also available, with locations yet to be determined.
By governing board policy, most children enrolling in kindergarten will reach the age of five by August 31. Currently, parents of children reaching the age of 5 between September 1 and December 31 may request enrollment in kindergarten if they believe it is in their child's best interest. The younger children are grouped in smaller classes, and are taught by a teacher and an instructional assistant. These classes are half-day and are not available at all elementary schools. Contact your neighborhood school for specific information.
All Mesa Public Schools conduct kindergarten registration in the Spring. A certified copy of your child's birth certificate, current immunizations records and proof of residence are needed at the time of registration.
If you are unsure of which school serves your neighborhood, go to school locators to look up your address or call the district's Community Relations Department, 480-472-0223. Open enrollment may also be available at some schools.
