Preparing Our Children for Testing

It takes a community to educate a child. As such, it is important that each member of our school communtiy has a role in preparing our students for the national, state, and district tests taking place in April.

What Edison Elementary does for its students:

  • Employs "Highly Qualified" teachers
  • Assigns Instructional Assistants to each classroom
  • Offers supplemental programs and material to support the curriculum
What teachers will do for their students:
  • Teach the state curriculum and performance objectives
  • Develop lessons to teach the curriculum
  • Plan with team members to design lessons
  • Provide opportunities for students to practice test format
  • Communicate with parents as to student progress
  • Continue their own professional development

What parents should do for their children:
  • Check child's planner/folder each night for assignments
  • Provide their children with:
    • a place to complete assignments
    • a quiet place to work
    • limited interruptions and sibling interference
  • Reward effort
  • Provide consequences for lack of effort
  • Get kids to school daily and on time

What students must do for themselves:
  • Arrive at school each day on time
  • Pay attention in class
  • Ask for help if needed
  • Complete assignments
