Hello, my name is Lauren Wowk and I am thrilled to be the newest member of Mesa’s incredible Education Technology Department! I have been providing training and professional development to students, teachers, and administrators for the past 15 years.
I am originally from Brooklyn, New York and began my career in education in 1999 as an elementary school teacher in New York City Public Schools. In early 2005, I was one of three 4th grade teachers selected to participate in the regional Title IID Technology Grant Program. This federally funded grant was designed to show teachers how to integrate technology into their curriculum using laptops, while receiving one-on-one coaching from a regional technology coach. I enjoyed this so much and it showed, therefore the coach encouraged me to apply for a position on their team. In the fall of 2005, I was offered the position of Technology Staff Developer for Region 7 at the N.Y.C. Department of Education. I was so excited and knew instantly that this was the career for me!
In 2007, I was offered a position as an Instructional Technology Coach in Scottsdale Unified School District. I gladly accepted, relocated to Arizona and never looked back! I worked as a technology coach in Scottsdale for 11 years.
In 2018, I temporarily relocated to Las Vegas for one year and worked as a K-5 Digital Specialist in the Clark County School District. This was a great learning experience because it allowed me to implement my years of technology professional development into a real classroom setting.
When I returned to Arizona in 2019, I was given the opportunity to join Mesa Public Schools as an Education Technology Trainer and couldn't be happier!
I look forward to learning more and to continue identifying best practices in technology integration to help develop digital-age teaching and learning.
