THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A PARENT EDUCATOR

girls playingThe Home-Based Program for Migrant Preschoolers consists of activities taught at home. The activities are designed to promote interaction between caretaker and child. These activities provide opportunities for children to use language, to label items, to observe people, places and things. Children learn to compare, to sort, to classify, to anticipate outcomes, to solve problems and listen to stories in English or Spanish.

Throughout the activities, the home educator involves the parent so that the parent feels comfortable interacting with the child. The home educator's home visit includes a review of a prior activity, demonstration of a new activity, discussions about child development theory appropriate for that age and extended activities.
