Appeal Process for

Gifted-Talented Services:

7th-8th Grade Students

The Gifted-Talented Team makes data-based decisions regarding services. A student may not have been placed in “Honors” because his/her CogAt scores were at the 85 percentile or lower; therefore the parents may choose to appeal for additional academic support.*

Appeal process

Parent Appeal Survey: to be completed by a parent or guardian

Teacher Appeal Survey: to be completed by one of this student's teachers

Data Review: to be completed by the Gifted-Talented Team

The "Teacher Referral" is emailed as a Google form and completed by student's teacher(s)

* To dermine the support needed, additional indicators may be reviewed, such as:

1. Atypical Student Behaviors

  • Intense Language Acquisition Ability = passing AZELLA in less than 1 year
  • Underperformance = achievement data not consistent with identified potential
  • Social-Emotional Need = counselor anecdotal records, twice exceptional
  • Interview Process = AVID

2. Other Documentation: Out of district testing or formative evidence
