People of all ages learn more and retain it longer through active investigation and participation. Mesa has been a national leader in hands-on science for over 30 years. The Science Resource Center was the vision of Dr. Susan Sprague who began working to bring it to fruition in 1974. Dr. Sprague had a gift for recognizing how students learn and retain with hands-on experiences and exploration, building to questioning and later to true inquiry. The center has maintained that philosophy through the years and continues to support the hands-on, minds-on approach. This approach is research-based, provides opportunity for full integration and works especially well in support of English language learners.

Mesa's elementary science program has grown into a nationally recognized exemplary program bringing hands-on science to every student in the district through the use of a kit-based program. We currently build, deliver and refurbish 9,000 units per school year, serving 59 sites.
