I love being a member of the Emerson Community!  Emerson is a community strengthened by it's rich diversity and long-standing traditions.  I am very proud that one tradition has always been a strong partnership between parents, community and staff.  Emerson has been a pillar in the neighborhood for almost 70 years!  Being one of the oldest institutions in Mesa provides us with a deep sense of pride and purpose.  I am especially proud that I get to serve as the principal of Emerson since my roots in this community run very deep.  When Emerson was constructed, many decades ago, my grandfather was part of the construction crew.  He actually installed the plumbing at Emerson.

As an educator, I believe that our commitment to our 21st century learners is to empower them with a passion for knowledge, the perseverance to realize their maximum potential, and the courage to dream as they continue to carry our community into setting the standard for excellence.

What starts here, changes a community!

I am proud to say that I am a product of Mesa Schools.  I attended a Mesa School from kindergarten through my graduation from Mountain View High School.  I have over 20 years of professional experience in Mesa Public schools.  Prior to being the principal of Emerson, I've been a 5th and 6th grade teacher, a language/writing coach, a Title 1 Specialist/Adminsitrative Intern at Emerson Elementary, and the assistant principal at Summit Academy.  I acquired my Masters in Educational Leadership through the iLeadAZ program.  iLeadAZ is a scholarship program at Arizona State University that offers the opportunity of a year-long principal internship.  Go DEVILS!

I enjoy spending my free time with my family.  My husband, Todd, is a teacher in Mesa and we have two incredible daughters.  Our girls are both graduates from Mesa Public Schools, Go WARRIORSOur elder daughter is a kindergarten teacher in MPS and our younger daughter will be a senior at ASU. She plans on teaching high school in MPS.  Education is a topic of many conversations in our family.  I also have a large extended family to keep me busy with lots of nieces and nephews.  We enjoy vacationing on the beach together, camping and our weekly Sunday dinners.

Outside of school, I have several interests that help me stay strong and healthy.  I enjoy long walks with my dog, Kirby.  Other pets that keep by busy include 3 goats and several chickens who all compete for my attention and snuggles.  Anything that takes me outdoors makes my heart happy.  I enjoy hiking, gardening and my new hobby, stand up paddle boarding!

It is wonderful to be a member of the Emerson team.  I look forward to working with our students, parents and teachers.
