My name is Kaylee Homstad, I have been the Speech/Language Pathologist (SLP) here at Emerson since 2012. I attended Arizona State University where I obtained a Master’s of Science in Communication Disorders and a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology. I hold the Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). I am licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services and certified by the Arizona Department of Education. I was born and raised here in Mesa where I attended Emerson, Carson Jr. High, and Westwood High School.
Speech/Language therapy is a service provided for students who have been identified as having a Speech/Language Impairment (SLI). Eligibility for Speech/Language Impairment is determined after communication needs are identified through standardized testing. As the Speech/Language Pathologist, I service students with a variety of communication needs including delays in receptive, expressive, and social language, deficits in articulation skills (speech sounds), voice disorders, and fluency disorders (stuttering).
When working with your student I believe in a team approach. You as a parent are a part of that team which also includes your student, and your student’s classroom teacher. All team members are encouraged to provide input when developing goals to address your student’s communication needs. Throughout the academic quarter, progress is monitored during weekly Speech sessions. At the end of the quarter, progress reports are sent home along with your student’s report card. This progress report indicates how your student is progressing on his or her Speech/Language goals.
I look forward to working with your student as we work on his/her communication goals this year! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
