Welcome to the Fourth Grade!
We are excited to begin our adventures, full of learning and enrichment. Our curriculum will support the Arizona State Standards. We are confident that your child will feel successful and challenged throughout the year. In reading, we will be incorporating the district adopted Harcourt Brace reading series. We will also be integrating several literature studies that should prove to be entertaining as well as full of writing and reading skills. Our math program is a mixture of the district math series as well as a variety of manipulative activities that will enhance student learning. We will be drilling subtraction, multiplication, and division facts, as well as covering a variety of problem solving strategies. Also covered will be number sense, decimal concepts, two and three digit multiplication, long division, fractions, measurement, geometry, statistics, probability and algebraic thinking. We will be doing a variety of writing this year, so send those sharpened pencils and we’ll get ready to go. Persuasive writing, personal narratives, poetry, tall tales, pen pal letters, “how to...” paragraphs, and fictional writing will be a part of our curriculum. The Six Traits will be incorporated within each lesson. We are excited and ready to gear up for our science and social studies units for this year. Variables, Survivor, Arizona history, Native Americans of Arizona, Every Drop Counts, and Energy and Magnetism are the units we will become familiar with throughout the year. Let’s not forget our Famous Arizonan Wax Museum in the spring that will culminate our research project. Our goal is to create a memorable year full of rich experiences, and a place where your child feels good about him/herself. We will work together to make the fourth grade experience one that will always be remembered. Together, as a team, the job will be easy. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call or send a note.
