Miss
Entz taught in the district for 42 years, from 1929 until
1971. She served six years at the old Franklin Elementary
and 36 years at Mesa High School, teaching physical education.
During her high school teaching career, Miss Entz also coached
girls tennis, archery and golf, and sponsored the freshman
tennis club, National Honor Society, Girls Athletic Association
and Bows and Birdies (the archery and badminton club). She
is best remembered for her 35-year sponsorship of the Rabbettes,
a large group of girls who performed football half-time shows
with the Mesa High School band. When Miss Entz retired in
1971, there was no one willing to devote the energy and enthusiasm
which she had lavished on the group, so the Rabbettes also
retired. Following her retirement, the 65-year-old Miss
Entz volunteered to lead bus tours for "senior citizens." Over
a five-year period, she led a total of 86 trips throughout
Arizona, Utah, Colorado and California. Entz Elementary School was constructed and dedicated in Miss Entz's name in 1993. Miss Entz passed
away in 1998. |
