Welcome to a great year!

We have many exciting things in store for our students this year. Here are just a few of the topics we’re focusing on during this busy semester:

Reviewing and relearning our basic math facts- This does include the addition and subtraction fast facts that the students learned in the primary grades, as well as the multiplication and division facts through the twelves. Flashcards at home are a must if your child doesn’t have these memorized. Please encourage your child to learn these basic facts. Our junior high colleagues are begging us to stress the importance of these facts. Thanks for your help with this.

Writing personal narratives Learning about genre, author’s purpose, inferencing and drawing conclusions. Meanwhile, each class focuses on a different literature study book. We’re really working hard on our reading skills and enjoying great books, too!

AR continues to be a huge success in sixth grade. All classes have set goals and are working diligently to achieve them.

Studying the human brain, archaeology, and extreme weather. Exploring beginning algebra concepts through Hands-On Equations. Learning the sign language alphabet and many word signs, as well.

Special thanks to the parents that have sent in the large bags of pretzels, boxes of graham crackers and barrels of goldfish for snack break. All sixth grade classes snack mid-morning and many of the students who don’t bring food from home are enjoying a small snack from this supply. If you’d like to help with snacks, our classes would appreciate it greatly. Non-sugary snacks that are easy to distribute are always welcome.

Sixth grade teachers love parent help. If you’re interested in coming in to work with students, please call us. We also appreciate any parents that like to help with grading papers at home. WE LOVE OUR PARENT HELPERS! Thank you to all the parents for your incredible support!
