Dear Second Grade Explorer,
My name is Mrs. Merrifield and I'm your second grade teacher. I am excited about having you in my class. I hope you have had a great summer relaxing and playing with your friends. I can't wait to tell you about the exciting things I did with my family this summer.
I'd like to tell you a little about myself. My husband, Scott, and I have two children, Hallie and Marshall. Hallie is going to be a freshman at GCU this year and Marshall will be in fourth grade here at Entz! We have four silly dogs - Mia, Harry, Murphy and Lil' D and two crazy cats, Pumpkin and Moose. I have been teaching in Mesa since 1993 with this being my 13th year at Entz. Some of the things I enjoy doing are camping, boogie boarding, riding bikes, and traveling. I'm definitely looking forward to cooler weather after this HOT summer! I can't wait to learn more about you.
We can all look forward to an exciting and rewarding year. It will be wonderful starting school and making new friends. We have a lot of great activities planned this year. You will have many interesting books to read.(Chapter books, too!) You will be learning new skills in math, reading, and language as well as writing imaginative stories and creating fun art projects. We will also explore interesting science and social studies units and take our learning out of the classroom with an exciting field trip. As you can see, second grade is an action packed but wonderful year.
I would like to invite you to come and introduce yourself to me at "Meet the Teacher" on Monday, August 7th from 5:00-6:00 pm. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 9th. Be sure to remind your parents to put these dates on their calendar. Our classroom number is A-3. My phone number at school is 480-472-7313 and my email is email@example.com. Enjoy the rest of your vacation. See you soon!
I would like to take the opportunity to welcome you and your child to second grade. I am a native of New Mexico and lived at home until I graduated from Western New Mexico University in 1992. While teaching, I earned a Master's in Education through NAU. I have taught at various schools in Mesa but have called Entz home for more than ten years. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions or concerns about your child. My phone number at school is 480-472-7313. Email is a very effective communication tool I would like to encourage you to use to contact me, as well. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include your child’s name in the subject line so that I know it is important.
