Welcome to the Speech and Language program of Entz Elementary School! I am very happy to have returned for my 8th year with Mesa Public Schools and for my first year with the Entz Explorers as Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP). I am also very fortunate to welcome back Erin Chappell, SLP-A, to the Entz SL program this year.

I believe that the ability to effectively communicate one's ideas, wants and needs is a basic human right for all. I strive within my work as Speech and Language Pathologist to provide my students with the tools they need to execute this right, to be their best selves, and to be successful learners and communicators.

My background as an educator spans over 25 years from teaching preschool/pre-K and Kindergarten, to serving as the director of childcare and preschool centers, to the past 17 years in Special Education as Speech and Language Pathologist. Although I have served in several positions, being a SLP is where my true passion lives. I feel very blessed to spend my days working with special needs children, their parents, and educators.

I grew up a Nebraska Corn Husker in Omaha, Nebraska, but have lived in Arizona for the past 20 years. My education spans across both states I've called home. I received my B.A. degree in Communications (journalism writing and editing for print mass media) from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and an Associates Degree in Childhood Development from Metro Community College.

In Arizona I continued my studies at Arizona State University, where I completed a post-baccalaureate in Speech and Language Pathology and received my M.S. degree in Communication Disorders from Nova Southeastern University.

I am nationally certified by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and carry the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). I have also specialized my work in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) working in various community, home, clinical, and educational settings, such as providing habilitation and communication therapy to ASD children. In addition to serving as SLP in MPS during the school year, I spend my summers leading a team of speech-language providers for Pediatric Speech and Language Specialists at Kamp Talk A Lot, a summer day camp targeting social-pragmatic communication skills.

I feel truly blessed to spend my days with special needs children and working along side dedicated teachers and parents. It is always my goal to work collaboratively and do anything necessary to support our students in reaching their educational and communication goals as well as celebrating their successes.

The Speech and Language classroom doors are always open for your questions, concerns, and needs you may have that I can assist you with. The Speech and Language classroom is located in room C-4. Please don't hesitate to stop by before/after school, or contact me by phone and email. Thank you ~
