SEI Fast Facts

Administrative Code R7-2-613.J1 requires a SEI, ESL or bilingual endorsement of all classroom teachers, supervisors, principals and superintendents.

Provisional SEI Endorsement
All persons certified before August 31, 2006, holding a valid Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, Principal, Superintendent, Supervisor, Career and Technical, and Special Education Arizona State Certificate must complete the 15 clock hours or 1 semester hour of SEI Provisional training and have this endorsement added to their certficate to meet the requirements for the Provisional SEI Endorsement. (Mandated R7-2-613 J.2.c.)

All persons obtaining a valid Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, Principal, Superintendent, Supervisor, Career and Technical, and Special Education Arizona State Certificate on and after August 31, 2006, must complete 45 clock hours or 3 semester hours of SEI Provisional training and have their endorsement added to their certificate to meet the requirements for the Provisional SEI Endorsement. (Mandated R7-2-613 J.1.)

*The fee will be waived when you add the provisional SEI to your certificate.*

Full SEI Endorsement
Within three years of obtaining the Provisional SEI Endorsement, all persons holding a valid Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary, Principal, Superintendent, Supervisor, Career and Technical Education, and Special Education Arizona State Certificate must complete an additional 45 clock hours or 3 semester hours of SEI completion training to apply for their Full SEI Endorsement. (Mandated R7-2-613 J.1.)

Reciprocity:
The requirements for a Provisional SEI Endorsement may be waived for a period not to exceed one year in accordance with certfication reciprocity as prescribed in A.A.C.R7-2-619.

First Time Issuances of a Provisional or Administrator Certificate (Out of State Graduates only)
The requirements for a Provisional SEI Endorsement may be waived for a period not to exceed one year in accordance with certification first time issuances of a Provisional or Administrator Certificates for applicants graduating from out of state teacher/administrator preparation programs only.
Those classroom teachers, supervisors, principals, and superintendents holding a full English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement or a full Bilingual endorsement do not need to obtain the Full ESL Endorsement, however nothing in this rule prevents school districts from requiring certificated staff to obtain an SEI Endorsement in addition to an ESL or Bilingual Endorsement as a condition of employment.
