Academic Advisement: Mr. Jim Poulin
Comprehensive Competency-Based Guidance
The Guidance and Counseling program is based on the Comprehensive Competency-Based Guidance format (CCBG). The school counselor presents the counseling curriculum during the year to the students at East Valley Academy.
This curriculum is offered in one-on-one conferences, small group activities and/or large
group presentations. The premise of CCBG — that certain information needs to be presented to all students
during their high school years — has been endorsed by the school
district, the Arizona School Counselors Association and the American
School Counselor Association.
The counselor is on campus from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily during the regular school year. Although walk-ins are permitted, an appointment is the best way to ensure that the counselor will be available to meet with a student and/or parent.
Parents or students may make counseling appointments by contacting the school office in person or by calling (480) 472-9359. Students may be excused from class for brief periods to meet with the counselor.
