Consider keeping your child home from school if
he or she:

  • Has a fever of 100.4 or higher
  • Has been vomiting
  • Has had diarrhea
  • Has excessive tiredness or lack of appetite
  • Has a productive cough or persistent sneezing
  • Headache, body aches, earache
  • Sore throat (a minor one is usually not a problem and parents can send cough drops to school with their child and include a note for the teacher; a severe sore throat, even in the absence of fever, could be strep especially if associated with difficulty swallowing or a stomach ache).  The health office can only provide your child with a salt water gargle during the school day.

Please keep your child home until his or her fever has been gone for 24 hours without medicine. Returning to school too soon may slow the recovery process and unnecessarily expose others.
