. . .Did you know fruits and vegetables are good for you?
The answer is :  YES they are good for you.

Do you know why?. . . .  Well, for those of you who don't know I'm going to tell you.
They are nutrient rich and mostly fat free.  They are also low calorie.  Fruits and vegetables help you get vitamins and minerals and fiber that's important for growing and staying healthy.

Parents, you may ask how can I get my child interested in eating healthy snacks?

  • Keep fresh produce in sight - place bright colorful produce where everyone can easily grab something for a snack - like on the kitchen table.
  • Keep fresh cut veggie snacks in small bags at eye level in the fridge.
  • Try dried variations with little or no sugar added or add it to trail mix. Dried beans and peas count as veggies, look for crunchy dried soybeans and chickpea snacks.
  • Stock your pantry with canned choices, preferrably in light syrup and water.  They are quick and inexpensive.Try applesauce or single serving cups of your favorite fruits.
  • Frozen is good too!  Mix a handful of frozen strawberries and blueberries to your blender with low fat milk and you have a great treat for a hot day.  Frozen bars from 100% fruit and juice are good too :)   (recipee on how to make your own fruit bars to follow).
