Welcome to Miss Coe's page!

Hi Everyone!  I'm Miss Theresa Coe, General Music teacher in Mesa. I will be teaching at Guerrero Elementary and Irving Elementary starting in the 2021-2022 school year! I was blessed to be at Falcon Hill for 25 years and Taft for 13 years.

The beginning of the year is always so exciting!  New faces, friends, teachers, lessons, etc.  I know this year will be different but we are going to have a great time learning and stretching our brains!  You are smart kids!  You've got this!  And we will work together to make music come alive wherever we are! We know rhythm.  We know how to sing. And we know that anything can be an instrument. So...let's get creative and have an amazing and musical year!

A little about me and my music history.....

I have been a musician as early as I can remember and I love sharing music with others! My mother gave me piano lessons, at an early age, and I have always loved singing, even as a little girl; either as a soloist or in choirs. I attended schools in the Tempe, AZ School District; Hudson Elementary School, then McKemy Jr. High and McClintock High School. I graduated in 1991 from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana with a Music Education degree. I obtained my Human Relations Masters degree at NAU in 2000.

I have been teaching elementary music since 1991. I began my music teaching career in Port-au-Prince, Haiti at a private school named Union School, where I lived for 5 years. I moved back to Arizona permanently in 1996, when I began teaching at Falcon Hill Elementary and stayed there until the completion of the 2020-2021 school year. I also have had the opportunity to teach at numerous elementary schools in the Mesa District, as a travelling general music teacher. I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful district that fosters learning and constant student achievement in all their programs.  It is an honor to be part of the MPS Music Department.

Holiday Sing Along Songs

American Folk Music

You will hear a LOT of high energy, hand clapping music in original folk music. It's all acoustic since there was not electricity 'back in the day'. You will imagine a country dance perhaps, with people swinging each other around by the arms and smiling. Violins. washboards, some drums. banjos and maybe even a broom tapping to keep a crisp sound! There's nothin' like a good ol' American Hoedown!
