This is my 14th year teaching Special Education in Mesa.  I graduated from ASU and have taken several classes from NAU.  I have been happily married for 21 years and have a daughter here at Field and an older daughter in college working to become a speech pathologist.  We have 4 cats and enjoy watching movies and Arizona sunsets.

 Intermediate Specific Learning Disabled (SLD)

Students that are receiving services from an SLD teacher are assigned to a regular education class.  They participate with the class in all areas except for the time that they need for remediation in one or more academic areas. These areas are determined by their IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) which is develop by a team, which includes but is not limited to; the parents, regular education teacher, SLD teacher, nurse, principal and psychologist.  Specific Learning Disabilities classes serve students who demonstrate academic functioning significantly below their indicated ability level. The learning problem is not primarily the result of visual, hearing, motor disabilities, mental disability, emotional disturbance, environmental, cultural or economic disadvantage. These students may also be receiving services from other specialists like : Speech and Language pathologist, physical therapist, counselor, nurse and ocupational therapists.  Field Elementary School includes two Specific Learning Disability (SLD-R) resource classes, one serving primary and the other serving intermediate students.
