Biography

Mr. Mitchell has been involved in music education for more than 10 years in the state of Arizona, and in Illinois.  Originally from Phoenixville, PA, he attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, receiving a Bachelor's of Music in Percussion Performance under the direction of William Moersch and Ricardo Flores. He moved to Arizona to attend ASU and worked with Dr. JB Smith and Dr. Mark Sunkett to complete his Master of Music degree, also in Percussion Performance.

As a performer, Mr Mitchell's experiences have included nearly every genre of music, including concert band and orchestral music, jazz, marching band/drum corps, steel drums, opera, modern music, world music of all kinds and solo literature.  He makes it his goal to bring these vast experiences to his students everyday in the classroom in an effort not to just pique their interest in music, but also to show them how music can play a role in anyone's life.

Mr. Mitchell has been an active teacher in Arizona since he moved here in 2007.  He worked primarily with Marching Ensembles in the East Valley, but has also branched off to work as a specialist and assistant in all types of musical classrooms.  He has been very fortunate to work with some incredible music teachers during that time and has tried to absorb everything he can from those teachers.  Mr. Mitchell works everyday to provide this knowledge and experience to his students in the classroom.  Thanks to the amazing life music has given him, Mr. Mitchell hopes to provide even better experiences for his students than he received himself as a student and as a professional.
