A proud graduate of Brigham Young University-Idaho, I received a B.A. as an Art Education-Composite major. I am also certified to teach English at the secondary level and will shortly be certified to teach CTE. Before studying Art Education, I studied New Media Design at Rochester Institute of Technology and before that, I attended Champlain College. I previously taught K-8 Art at the Cartwright School District, but I am thrilled to be part of the Fremont family for my third year!
I am a learner. I am a creator. I am a teacher.
Thoughts on Education
I desire that my students become strong, moral leaders able to build themselves, their families, friends, and community. School extends the learning in students’ homes, enabling them to develop both their passions and the core skills. They are given responsibilities and learn how to act well in those responsibilities. They become empowered to help others and to enjoy life more fully. This schooling unlocks paths of opportunity that would otherwise remain closed to students.
Novelty attracts me; I pursue what is creative and well-crafted. For instance, I have a root beer collection (over 65 brands!), I use an atlas to explore literally the roads less-traveled, and I enjoy capturing with my camera those stunning elements of the natural world that easily go unnoticed.
I also express my creative flair by making elaborate Halloween costumes. My costumes include an Oompa Loompa, a giant seven-foot piñata on wheels, the Energizer Bunny, and, yes, Gumby. Each year, I make the costumes more authentic and skillful. Currently, I am constructing a scaled version of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. As an artist, I am always researching what has been done and seeking feedback to redesign better solutions.
But most importantly, I love people. Over time, I have grown to understand that building successful relationships gives meaning to life.
