                                 Me teaching

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I am proud to be in my eighth year as a Falcon and my sixth year as a Sidewinder! My name is Susan Bernard and I am the World Languages teacher for Spanish at Fremont Junior High and Smith Junior High. I received my Bachelor's of Arts in Spanish (summa cum laude) and my Master's in Elementary Education at Arizona State University. Go Sun Devils!
The benefits of acquiring a second language are inestimable. Research shows that it helps students in many ways, not the least of which includes better proficiency in their primary language and improvement in their ability for the kind of critical thinking that employers want and almost every profession currently requires. For more information on the ways that a second language can be of benefit, click here
Information regarding your student's class, including schedules, when assignments are due, are on the CALENDAR . The Calendar is of vital importance for keeping up to date and knowing what is expected. Many assignments are even printable from there with instructions for students and parents. I also include most of the information about the assignments on the grading portal which I keep up to date. In addition, there are other helpful websites that are available by clicking on the links to the left on this page.

Students are always welcome to make an appointment if they need tutoring or want to make up work or to retake a test or quiz. Students wishing to retake any assessment are required to show proof they studied (Quizlet, note from parent, interaction with their notes) instead of just "rolling the dice." Since I have "A" hour, it does limit my availability somewhat, but I'm always willing to work with students! My regular hours are as follows:

FREMONT:  Weds - 8:30am - 9:30am & by appointment before school
SMITH:         Weds. - 4:00pm - 5:00pm & by appointment after school

The best way to contact me is always via e-mail. I check my e-mail several times a day. You may also leave a voicemail and I will return your call as quickly as possible.
My email is: scbernard@mpsaz.org

I look forward to a memorable year together filled with fun, growth and learning!
