Here are the answers to some questions that you may have about this class.  This paper must remain glued in your notebook for the entire semester.  Refer to the information as needed.

1. What do I need to bring to class everyday?

Notebook (3-ring binder), math spiral, planner, and pencils (with erasers) EVERYDAY!

2. Will I use my Fremont planner is class?

YES! Everyday you will write your math assignments in your planner.  I will write your grade in your planner every Friday.

 3. What if I forgot to bring a pencil (with an eraser to class)?

I will supply a pencil, however I will be calling home.

4.What if there is a financial problem and I cannot afford supplies?

If this problem ever arises, please contact me privately and I will get supplies for you (this will be kept confidential).

5. What happened if I am tardy to class?

Please be on time, in your seat, when the tardy bell begins to ring.  The Fremont tardy policy will be enforced and you may have to make up the time at lunch or after school.

6. What do I sharpen my pencil?

Before the bell rings be in your seat with all supplies, including a sharpened pencil.

7. What am I to do once I am in the room?

Once you are sure your pencil is sharpened, then get on task by working on the new assignment! Do not wait for the bell or me to instruct you to get on task.

8. How often do we have assignments (homework)?

Assignments are given daily.  You are responsible to grade your homework everyday after the warm up activity.  I grade homework on a completion basis.

9.Why do we have assignments?

The purpose of assignments is to practice the new concepts taught and to review information previously taught; assignments are not given to punish you, but to serve as practice.

10. Can I turn in late assignments?

Late assignments can be turned in up until the day of the unit test on that concept.  If late assignments are turned in with a late homework pass (you are given two per quarter), you will receive full credit.  Those passes not used during the quarter count as extra credit.  All other late homeworks turned in will receive half credit.

11. What are the tests like in this class?

Tests may include a review of previously learned information, in addition to the new material recently studied; plan on being tested every one or two weeks.

12. If I do poorly on a test, can I retake it?

No – no retakes are given.  Test corrections are offered on a selected number or tests.  Do not rely on test correction, as they are not given on all tests.  If a test that you did poorly on has the option of test corrections, you must come in on your own time during a designate period to complete them.

13. Will my math spiral count as a grade?

YES! Your math spiral will be collected on each test day.

14. Should I have a three-ring binder?

Yes. You math spiral must be placed in a notebook everyday to avoid destruction!

15. What is the grading scale for this class?

                  90-100% = A, 80-89% = B, 70-79% = C, 60-69% = D, and 0-59% = F

16. What are the category values for my grade?

                  Tests/Quizzes = 75% while homework/participation/notebook = 25%

17. How is my semester grade figured?

Each quarter is worth 40% and your final exam is worth 20%.

18. What grade do I need to pass Algebra?

A, B, C and D are all passing grades.  However, with a grade of a D, you do get the high school credit, but you will not be able to go on to Algebra 2 your junior year of high school (you must have a C or better to advance).

19. What can I do when my math assignment is done?

Read, read, read!

20. What am I not allowed to do after I finished my homework?

Pass notes, write notes, talk, primp (apply makeup), or text.

21. When the bell rings at the end of class, may I get up and leave?

No, I dismiss you, not the bell.  Please leave the room clean; the area around your desk must be picked up before you are dismissed.  You may NEVER line up at the door.

22. What if I am absent?

It is your responsibility to make up all work missed and to copy the missing notes into your math spiral. You have two days for each day you were absent to turn in late work for full credit.

23. What about the work I miss if I “ditch” this class?

0’s are recorded for all work missed due to an unexcused absence.

24. Do you assign detentions?

YES!  They are 30 minutes long, served in this classroom before school.  If you are unable to serve detentions, then do not receive detentions; the decision is yours.

25. Do I get passes to get a drink or use the bathroom?

You are given two passes each quarter to use at your discretion.  Unused passes will count as extra credit at the end of the quarter.  You may not use your passes during instruction time. (You may get a drink at the fountain without a pass, but if I find you abusing this, I will take all of your remaining passes.)

26. What happens if there is a substitute here?

You will behave or receive an hour-long detention for all times your name is written down.

27. When can I come in for extra help?

I am here Tuesday and Thursday mornings for tutoring.  Also, I will be working in FLEX this semester on Tuesday and Thursdays after school.

28. What are your policies on applying make-up (primping) and backpacks on laps?

I do not want to see you applying make-up at any time during class and your backpack and/or purse must remain on the floor clearing from the aisle at all times.

29.  What is your cell phone and IPod policy?

If I see your cell phone I will issue one warning, then after that I will follow Fremont’s cell-phone policy and I will take your cell phone and bring it to the office.  The your parent/guardian must pick it up at their nearest convince.  My IPod policy is in accordance to Fremont’s policy, you may listen to them before class, but once class has started they must be turned off and placed in a secure location.

30.  And finally, I sincerely care about you and want you to do well! I hope you have a great semester, not only in math, but also in all your experiences here at Fremont Junior High.
