Mr. Todd Roberts
My phone: (480) 472-8283
The 2016-2017 school year is my fourth year as Principal of Fremont Junior High School and my twenty-third year in the Mesa Unified School District as an educator. For the first 13 years of my career I was a Social Studies teacher at Westwood High School where I taught eight different courses over that span. I was presented with the Wal*Mart Teacher of the Year Award for the 2005 – 2006 school year. I was also the Head J.V. Baseball Coach for five years, sponsor of numerous clubs including Close-Up, which takes students to Washington D.C., and the Audio-Visual Club. I have also had the opportunity to lead delegations of student ambassadors from various high schools to approximately 20 countries during the summer months over a period of ten years. In June of 2011 I also got married to my wonderful wife Tina on the beautiful island of Santorini, Greece. Before coming to Fremont I was the Assistant Principal at Mesa's Summit Academy, a kindergarten through 8th grade IB World School, where I was responsible for the daily operations of the 7th and 8th grade campus.
I received my Bachelors Degree from the State University of New York at Brockport, with majors in Criminal Justice and Psychology and a minor in Political Science. My Secondary Education Teaching Certificate and Masters in Secondary Education were received from Northern Arizona University. I have completed well over 100 hours of district or graduate level professional development hours since the completion of my Masters degree.
By now you have probably already heard or read about the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards (ACCRS) that schools are now being held accountable for. The first assessment of students and the ACCRS was conducted in April of 2015. Although this page is not the appropriate vehicle for an in-depth discussion of these standards, please realize that they have raised the academic expectations for all of our students, especially in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics, and therefore continue to impact the ways schools are approaching their curriculum and instruction. For further information please visit the following websites which I hope you find both informational and helpful: the Arizona Department of Education website, and there are more resources on our own Mesa Public Schools website. For further information and resources on how parents can better understand and support their children with the new ACCRS, there are informational guides produced by the National PTA.
Fremont also offers a wide variety of fun and rewarding extracurricular activities including a wide variety of sports in our district's 7th and 8th Grade Athletics program in addition to our rigorous academic offerings. I encourage all of our students to take advantage of these opportunities to get involved and become part of a team, club or organization to enrich their Fremont experience.
I feel very fortunate to be a member of the Fremont community which has consistently recognized the immeasurable value of a high level and well rounded education for our children. For more information about our school or any of our academic offerings, please feel free to call (480) 472-8282 to make an appointment or just come in and talk about all of the wonderful opportunities offered at Fremont Junior High School.
