Biography

My name is Amanda Armstrong and I am so excited to be teaching 5th grade at Hale this school year! I moved from Portland, Oregon to Chandler, Arizona in May of 2016 because I love the weather and how friendly everyone is here. My family was also able to relocate to the Phoenix metro area so it's been nice to have my family close by as I transition to living in the valley of the sun. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies from Portland State University. Later, I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching from Concordia University Portland. In Oregon, I taught preschool, worked as a substitute for grades K-12, and taught 5th grade. In Arizona, I've taught 6th and 7th grade math. Out of all of the grades that I've taught, 5th grade has to be my favorite; I love the curriculum and teaching 10 and 11 year old students who are beginning to think of the world in more abstract ways. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, running, attending yoga classes, spending time outdoors, and traveling as much as possible. I'm also the biggest Oregon Duck Football super-fan and cannot wait for football to begin soon! In addition, my other favorite sports teams include the Tennessee Titans and the Arizona Diamondbacks. I cannot wait to meet everyone soon!
