Biography

Hello!!  My name is Peggy O'Neill and I teach First Grade here at Hale School.  I graduated from the University of Portland, Portland, Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.  In 1993, I received a Masters Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Arizona.  Since coming to Mesa in 1986, I have earned additional educational endorsements in English as a Second Language (ESL), Early Childhood Education and Reading.

I have been teaching for more than 30 years with 24 of those years here in Mesa.  After several years in the classroom, I worked as a Basic Skills Resource Specialist for Mesa Public Schools (MPS) for five years.  I then returned to the classroom at Hale Elementary where I currently serve as the First Grade Team Leader.  During the past four years I have taught the S.T.A.R.T. Phonics program for Mesa Public Schools.  I train primary teachers and instructional assistants throughout the Mesa District.  I have also taught All Kids Are Gifted (AKAG) Summer School Program for eight years and served as a primary teacher with the MPS Reading Summer School from 2005-08.

I have supervised student teachers and have mentored many others during my years in Mesa.  In September, 2004, I was recognized as MPS Employee of the Month.  This fall I was a nominee for Arizona Teacher of the Year for 2010.
