Biography

Mrs. PowellIt is an honor to be part of the Hale Heroes family!! Welcome to an exciting year in Powell's Groovy Pad!

My background, a little bit about me: I am a proud "Army Brat," having spent many childhood years in Germany and all over the United States, and I am a proud veteran who spent seven years in the Army as a musician. It was a wonderful experience to have lived overseas in Germany, Italy, and Japan, and all across the United States, including 4 years in Alaska. I hold a BS in Psychology and MEd in Early Childhood Education and am currently pursuing my National Board Certification. I enjoy pro football - the Steelers are my team, finding the BEST pizza joints in town, listening to 70's music, rainy days, drinking coffee, and reading.

My oldest son, Nick, is a GA Tech graduate with a degree in Chemical and Bio-molecular Engineering. He lives in Houston,Texas, loves his job as a chemical engineer, and enjoys playing and listening to music. My youngest son, Zak, is a 2017 graduate of Red Mountain High School and will soon be enlisting in the Army as an MP, Military Police. He enjoys video gaming, weight lifting, and playing the drums and guitar. My step‐son, Logan, is a graduate from Colorado State University and Second Lieutenant in the Army.  My amazing husband is a retired Army Officer who served our country for 20 years, and is a doctor of Naturopathic Medicine. We enjoy hiking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.  We have recently added a daughter to our family, a foreign exchange student from Germany! We are excited to welcome Anna to our home!

This will be my 13th year teaching with experience in 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades. Past experience includes assistance with Gifted & Talented,  working with very low achieving students in an after‐school setting, working as a teacher’s aid, and three years as a substitute teacher, teaching all grades K‐12.  I will be hosting a student teacher for the first half of the school year, Nicole Dee. I am excited to welcome her to our classroom!!

My classroom promotes a positive mindset, fun and laughter with learning, and I enjoy when the students are as enthusiastic about learning as I am! My expectations are set very high, but with hard work and perseverance, ANYTHING can be achieved!!! I look forward to our collaboration ensuring your child reaches their fullest potential.

Please know that my door is always open. Your input into your child's education is valued, and I look forward to a year of fun and learning with your child! My preferred method of communication is email - Please email me at npowell@mpsaz.org with any questions or concerns you may have.
