Dear Parent/Guardian,
Standardized testing will begin at Hawthorne April 7 - 11. Second grade
students will take the Terra-Nova Assessment and 3 rd through 6th graders
will take the Dual Purpose AIMS Assessment. As I am sure you are aware, it
is critical that we have students present and ready to test on these days.
Please make sure that your children get a good night sleep and eat breakfast
before they come to school. Students need to be on time during testing week.
Any student who arrives after testing has begun will need to wait in the
ALC room until that testing session is complete. They will then have to make
up that section of the test at a later time. Also, please refrain from scheduling
any doctor or other appointments during this time.
Your child's education will benefit from this testing because the assessment
data helps us provide more effective teaching. But there are other critical
concerns that you might not know:
Our federal funding depends on student participation in assessments.
Because school funding is such a concern today, our federal funding is essential.
Currently a large portion of our budget comes from Title I funds.. Under
federal law, we lose some or all of these funds if our students don't participate
in this testing program. We run the risk of having to cut back on programs
or staffing. The
law requires that we have 95% participation to prevent being labeled as “not
making progress” – regardless of how well our students perform. This status
starts us down a path that might require dramatic changes to our present
format – even if we don't want them. This is why it is so important for you
to have your children in school, on time, and ready to do their best!

Vamos a comenzar examenes estandarizados en Hawthorne Abril 7 - 11. Los estudiantes
de segundo grado van a tomar el examen Terra-Nova y grados 3 a 6 va a tomar
el examen AIMS.
Como estoy seguro que ustedes estan al tanto, es critico que tengamos presente
a todos los estudiantes y listo para tomar los examenes estos dias. Estos son
recordatorios importantes:
Por favor de asegurarse que sus hijos reciban un noche completa de dormir
y coman desayuno antes de la escuela. Los estudiantes necesitan llegar a tiempo
durante la semana de examenes. Estudiantes que llegan tarde despues que ha
comenzado los examenes van a necesitar esperar en el cuarto de detención
hasta que ha terminado la sesion de exemenes. Tendran que hacer esa sección
de examenes en otro dia.
Por favor de tratar de no hacer citas con doctor o dentista durante este tiempo.
La educación de su hijos va a beneficiar de estos examenes por que
los datos de examenes nos ayudan a proveer encenanza mas efectiva. Pero existen
otras preocupaciónes mas criticas que pueda ser que usted no sepa:
Nuetros fondos federales dependen de la participación y evaluación
de los estudiantes. Los fondos de la escuela nos preocupan hoy en dia y es
un hecho de que los fondos federales son ecenciales. Actualmente una grande
porcion de nuestro presupuesto proviene de esta fuente. Bajo la ley federal,
nosotros perdemos algunos de estos fondos si nuestros estudiantes no participan
en el programa de estos examenes. Corremos el peligro de tener que recortar
algunos programs, personal de trabajo, o encontrar otros recursos para nuestros
fondos. La ley federal requiere que tengamos un 95% de participación
para prevenir que no nos califiquen “No haciendo progreso”- a pesar de que
nuestros estudiantes tengan buenas calificaciónes. Esto nos comenzaria
en un camino que va a requerir cambios drasticos a nuestro formato presente—aun
que no quisieramos. Por esta razon es muy importante que sus hijos esten en
la escuela a tiempo, y listos para hacer lo mejor que puedan!
Como siempre. Yo quiero darles las gracias por su apoyo y ayuda. Yo se que
juntos podemos asegurar que los estudiantes de Hawthorne sobresalgan en poder
