Mesa Public Schools will pilot a comprehensive
International Baccalaureate Programme to give your inquisitive,
motivated student the foundation for college and citizenship skills
needed in the 21st century.
The International Baccalaureate Programme
offers world-renowned, challenging academic course work. In August,
the district will pilot the curriculum for students in kindergarten
through 12th grade.
To complement the current Diploma Programme
at Westwood High School for grades 10-12, the district will test
a Primary Years Programme at Frost Elementary School and a Middle
Years Programme at Hendrix Junior High School and the Mesa Academy
for Advanced Studies.
Upon approval, the new programs will provide
a seamless transition to Westwood’s IB Diploma Programme
or to advanced courses at any Mesa Public Schools high school.
The International Baccalaureate Programme
gives students the opportunity to engage in rigorous course work.
In-depth classroom studies focus on global themes and provide
a solid foundation of academic courses. Students study the literary
classics and explore foreign languages while continuing to participate
in the district’s award-winning music, art and physical
education programs.
The Middle Years Programme will be available
for grades 6-9 at Hendrix Junior High School, at 1550 W. Summit
Place, Chandler. Current and open enrollment students may choose
to continue with the traditional junior high program or apply
to the IB Middle Years Programme.
